80-year-old Man Walks Around the World

Harry Lee McGinnis could easily pass for 60 – he is, in fact, pushing 81. His secret? Never keeping still; a wander lust that impelled the American to set off on foot around the world.

“You want to live longer, go out and see the world. When you retire, don’t sit in front of the TV set and gain 20 or 50 pounds and drink the beer and eat the sandwiches and can hardly get out of the chair. Go see the world!”

  1. A 100 year-old French cyclist rode 24 kms in one hour in a velodrome in 2011 and said he could have gone faster. A friend of mine pushing 70 goes for walks up to 3,500 kms and does not want to stop at the end, because he calls it a meditative escape from all the rules of life that restrict you from having a fabulous life of freedom.

  2. My first exposure to youthful older people was my own grandmother’s brother and
later Dr. Paul C. Bragg the Life Extensionalist who wrote “The Miracle of Fasting”.
As baby boomers age they should avail themselves of this hidden potential through
reading the works of these people and then practicing them them relentlessly!
